BBC 10 Pieces 

Artlink has been chosen by the BBC to be 10 Pieces Champion for Hull providing workshops and film screening for the project.
10 Pieces is a project about classical music and creativity and  open to every primary school in the country and aims to introduce a generation of children to 10 pieces of classical music. It is intended that the project acts as a catalyst for creative activity, helps schools to deliver the music curriculum and to collaborate with partners to maximise the impact of music and arts education 

BBC Ten Pieces

10 Pieces will take place over 10 months between October 2014 and July 2015 including:

Free screenings of the film at Artlink 

Screenings open to the public 10.30-11.20am and 2.00-2.50 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st October and 1st November 2014.

Extra screenings are available to school groups to book for free during Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in Ocober 2014, please contact admin@artlink.uk.net to check availability and to book. 

Workshops as part of Freedom Festival 2014

DANCE ORCHESTRA

WHAT: A 6 session course exploring different instruments and sounds to create a collaborative dance piece.

Using their own bodies to explore how different instruments can be represented through dance, the students will explore how different qualities of movement reflects different types of sound.

For 30 children

6 sessions of 1.5 each

DANCE A STORY

WHAT: A half day exploring story through dance and physical theatre- how can you tell a story using dance? What stories do we hear in music? A interactive, multi artform workshop linking music and dance with literacy.

For 30 children

½ day session

BUSTING MOVES

WHAT: Using an innovative and alternative approach to exploring dance genres, the class will be split into two groups and using the same music as a base will choreograph and learn a series of pieces that will be performed as a dance off with the whole class (think West Side Story). The students will explore first-hand how music affects different styles of dance genres- and also how dance genres alters the audiences perception of the music itself.

For 30 children (split in two groups of 15)

1 day session or two ½half days

PLAY, CREATE and MOVE.

WHAT: A fun practical workshop exploring physical body, our imagination and creating short performed stories using music and sound to unlock each individuals unique potential, creative voices and non verbal communication.

For 30 children

1 day session

FROM BEAT TO FEET

WHAT: A fun practical workshop using sound and music as a creative catalyst for creative writing, words, poetry and / or drama! Explore different worlds, words, stories, places in time and characters through music.

 

For 30 children

1 day session

Cost: £262

Curriculum Links: Music, English, Spelling, Citizenship and Social Skills, Drama, Geography. Can be tailored to a particular topic area, using curriculum materials or specific field of work in advance.

 

THE RHYTHM OF LIFE

WHAT: A fun practical workshop applying theatre techniques and drama using live and recorded music. A relationship between rhythm, sound, singing and music in relation to DRAMA.

For 30 children

1 day session

Curriculum links: Music, English, Drama, Citizenship and Social Skills, Creativity, Art, PE, Can be tailored to a particular topic area, using curriculum materials or specific field of work in advance.

 

 

SOUND (REPRESENTED BY COLOUR) TRAVELS THROUGH A BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE

 

WHAT: Illustrate black and white image using paint/computers/textiles (depends on the group) to show sound as colour travelling through a picture and telling a story. Perhaps it would flow out of windows, up the stairs, into a dark room making it bright.

 

For a class of approx 30 KS2 Children split into 2 groups (artist working with ½ the group- then swapping over)

SYNTHESIA/ NOTATION

 

WHAT: This workshop explores Synthesia. Children will explore how sound makes them feel and think about how to represent music and sound visually.

 

For a class of approx 30 KS2 Children split into 2 groups (artist working with ½ the group- then swapping over)

SOUND EFFECTS

 

WHAT: Radio phonic workshop exploring film sound effects.

Focussing on JOHN WILLIAMS (STAR WARS COMPOSER) and  DELIA DERBYSHIRE  (DR WHO)

To consider how important music and sound effects are in film and children to create sound effects to add to a piece of classical music.

 

For a class of approx 30 KS2 Children split into 2 groups (artist working with ½ the group- then swapping over)

 

½ day workshop
