An exhibition coinciding with the Humber Mouth Literature Festival, featuring a variety of work from four artists that focuses on narrative, language and the written word

 Tales & Transcripts

From Friday 6th until Monday 30th June 2008, the Artlink Gallery on Princes Avenue will be showcasing an inspiring collection of artwork by artists from the region who work in different media but all feature meanings relating to the themes of literature, text, and stories. The four artists exhibiting work in Tales & Transcripts are Kim Barker, Clare Brennan, Frances Kelly and Alan Micklethwaite.

Tales & Transcripts

On display are photographs, words and tape recordings relating to conversations, stories and sayings documented by Glasgow born artist Clare Brennan during her trips to Africa as a self-funded volunteer. Printmaker Frances Kelly, whose work has been exhibited internationally, has combined her own signs and found text in different structures to form alternate messages and a personal language for the viewer to translate. Kim Barker's emotive mixed media pieces combining collage, screen-print and text evoke memories of the turmoil caused by last year's flooding in Hull - something which many can relate to. Alan Micklethwaite, one of the top stone carvers in the country, who works figuratively and abstractly also specialises in letter carving, will be showing a variety of examples of his work.
