Exhibition from 10/4/10 to 10/5/10

An exhibition aimed at raising awareness of the positive benefits that the arts bring to our mental welfare and is staged in conjunction with Mental Health Action Week, 12th to 18th April 2010.

This show explores how both the creation and viewing of artwork are used to encourage the wellbeing of the mind. It also is intended to de-stigmatise ideas surrounding ‘mental illness' by showcasing work that directly deals with the subject together with work produced by people who lives have, in one way or another, been affected by mental health issues; this could be either themselves or someone close or those who are caring for someone.

This exhibition was composed of two aspects - it presents drawings, prints and paintings created by people taking part in the Carers Art Project in Hull together with photography, installation, painting, drawing and print by six selected artists whose work reflects the ethos of the show.

The six artists featured are Emily Harris from London, Dominic Heffer and Paul Madden both Hull based, Katherine McDermid from the East Coast, Hannah Morris from Leeds and Pat Moss from Preston.

It was hoped that the work on display reflects the subject of ‘mental health' in a thoughtful and affirmative manner.
